The Frog House

This was a small group project where we created an augmented reality scene that could be viewed and investigated on Instagram.

Planning and Ideation

We had a basic idea of we wanted the project to work but the subject took more time to land on. We had three core ideas of a light house, a tree house, and a dungeon and eventually we ended up combining aspects of them into what became The Frog House.

Assembling the Boat

I spent most of my time working on the boat as that was the centerpiece of the entire project. This went through multiple iterations before landing on the final version that we used in the project.

Making A Boat A Home

As the boat was being reiterated I was also working on props for the boat as well. These would serve as both decorations as well as items for the frogs to inhabit such as the basket boat.

UVing

Some of the more detailed objects such as the boat had to be UVed in a way that allowed them to be hand painted in order to fit the art style we were going for. This was a little confusing at first as I had not needed to UV in this way before but we were able to get them to work.

Final Product

When we had fully assembled the scene and got it running in Spark AR we were able to port it over to Instagram and run through there. We then went out to a national park in our area and were able to use Instagram to place it in the area there for photos and video that replicated the bayou our scene was originally set to take place in.

Overview

For this project my partner and I wanted to create a small augmented reality experience so we came up with several ideas for how to approach it and what the subject should be. After condensing several ideas that we liked we decided on The Frog House, a small uprooted boat in the bayou inhabited by a family of frogs that called the boat their home.

Final Takeaway

In the end this project helped me better understand the augmented reality workflow as well as helped me improve my UVing skills. I had a lot of fun working on this and I am proud with how it turned out. Being able to see my work come to life through Spark and Instagram helped me appreciate it more than some other projects.
