Stargazers

Stargazers is a collaborative game project in which the player is able to experience life through the eyes of different creatures as they journey through a mystical forest. Move up the food chain as you explore an alien world where tracing the stars allows change how you see and traverse the environment around you.

Modeling

I created a variety of assets to be used as foliage in the environment. They consisted of different mushrooms and plant cards.

Creating Textures

I created several different ground textures to be used in the levels and at multiple different levels of detail. These ranged from different types of grass, dirt, rocky terrain, and sand.

After we had built all the levels we did extensive testing to make sure the game ran properly and that all the textures weren't stretching. When we had concluded testing we began the process of further refining the game and optimizing it in order to have the game added on Steam.

Overview

For this project I wanted to focus less on modeling and more on designing and populating an environment in order to create an immersive setting for a cinematic. After the core scene was set up I went and begun working on the lighting to create a better atmosphere and make the scene feel cozy and well lived in. Once the scene had the feeling I was looking for I begun working on camera animation and effects. When all of that was done I exported the cinematic and added some extra effects like the VHS overlay in before rendering the final sequence.

Final Takeaway

This project helped me become more comfortable with environment design and lighting in Unreal Engine. It also helped me get a better grasp on using the Unreal Engine Sequencer to perform basic camera animations. I was quite happy with how my first dedicated environemtal cinematic turned out.

Overview

Overview

For this project I worked on the several assets used for set dressing and environmental props. In addition to the assets I also designed several textures used for the environment. This was my first time working with Substance Designer and I learned much more about how texture creation is done and how to create instances of textures for different LODs.

Final Takeaway

This project helped me become more familiar with the material creation process and working in large groups on a single project. This was the largest group I worked in for a single project so it felt very chaotic in the beginning as we struggled to get organized and make things run smoothly.
